Deliver sound that’s 120% finished. No matter the style or size of the project. That’s where I get my kicks from as a sound designer and composer. And what I like to keep developing, even after being in the job for over 25 years.

The AI age has only just begun. I embrace the chances and stay away from the dangers. It brings valuable tools that I couldn’t dream of a few years ago. Generative AI is not my kind of thing, I prefer to create. Legislation is still in its infancy, but has my full attention.

From rough sound to polished mix.

And everything in between. Every detail, in every phase of every project is important to me. That’s why I don’t restrict myself to sound design and music only.

You can also ask me to do your foleying, dubbing, voice-over directing, mixing and mastering. By combining these skills, I make sure to give every note, every piece of copy, and every sound effect the same attention as the whole final mix. It’s the only way to make you and myself happy.

Besides advertising I also work for the music industry and the film industry. Some highlights: I wrote and produced a song that made it to the dutch charts. I created the sound design for dutch singer Anouk’s music video ‘Birds’. For dutch broadcaster NPS I created the sound for a short film ’11:59′. I was the lead sound designer and mixing engineer for dutch award winning movie ‘De Helleveeg’.

Ambition.

After I graduated my Master of Arts in Sound & Music Technology, I moved from a local production house, to a big recording studio (now STMPD Studios – owned by Martin Garrix), to international operating media production house Postoffice, and recently to advertising agency TBWANeboko. I love to know as many sides of the Media business as possible and am always up for interesting collaborations.

Freeze the best moments.

It may sound weird, but my love for photography started with my ears. They need to relax from time to time, have a break from the much loved and intense sound projects I do. That’s when I changed my focus from hearing to seeing, and concentrated on my eyes. It turned out that I can put the same feel and level of detail in it as in my sound design and music.

Freeze it for forever.

I often get that my work stands out and manages to keep attention. Or in other words, my photos are ’typical Bultman’. Whether there’s time to create a composition, or I have to decide what to shoot in a split second. The story behind the photo is always the trigger to catch that specific moment in time, and freeze it forever.

It’s about the atmosphere. Not the camera.

Technology is never in the main spotlight for me. Yeah I love to use a digital SLR or system camera, but sometimes my compact camera simply is the faster or better choice. Besides that, the atmosphere also dictates the technology I choose to work with. If the photo in my head asks for ‘old-fashioned’ film or even my 100% plastic Lomo Instant, then that’s what I bring to the arena.

The moment makes the story.

Editing photographs is somethiing I do myself. Usually with just some small corrections to enforce the overall feel, and sometimes more drastic for a more dramatic effect. In every case, the power of the original shot is leading and I hardly ever do montages. The moment makes the story, and I like to stay close to that.

Make a great story even better. That’s what drives me.

Add extra layers to beautiful and interesting stories. With sound, music, photography, and by sharing knowledge. It’s what I get up from bed for every day. Maybe not always as fast other days, but always with excitement and commitment. Some of my biggest passions are my daily job.

When I’m not working, I like to go walking or running in nature. In complete silence, or listening to Drum & Bass or Indie Rock. Spotting planets with my telescope keeps things in perspective. Sharing music with my two teenagers is the best there is. In return they teach me about the music that is relevant for them.
