Marcel Bultman and photography. It was love at first light. What started out as a hobby, has developed in a way that I also do it professional. It’s fun. But it’s even more fun when more people know about this. It’s why I publish and promote my work as a photographer in my label SHARPR*.
It may sound weird, but my love for photography started with my ears. They need to relax from time to time, have a break from the much loved and intense sound projects I do. That’s’s when I changed my focus from hearing to seeing, and concentrated on my eyes. It turned out that I can put the same feel and level of detail in it as in my sound design.
I often get that my work stands out and manages to keep attention. Or in other words, my photos are ’typical Bultman’. Wether there’s time to create a composition, or I have to decide what to shoot in a split second. The story behind the photo is always the trigger to catch that specific moment in time, and freeze it forever.
Technology is never in the main spotlight for me. Yeah I love to use a digital SLR or system camera, but sometimes my compact camera simply is the faster or better choice. Besides that, the atmosphere also dictates the technology I choose to work with. If the photo in my head asks for ‘old-fashioned’ film or even my 100% plastic Lomo Instant, then that’s what I bring to the arena.
Editing photographs is somethiing I do myself. Usually with just some small corrections to enforce the overall feel, and sometimes more drastic for a more dramatic effect. In every case, the power of the original shot is leading and I hardly ever do montages. The moment makes the story, and I like to stay close to that.
